The Accreditation Agency Curaçao (AAC) is an independent accreditation agency that promotes quality assurance in national and international higher education, and is officially recognized by the Ministry of Education and Science, Culture, and Sports of the Government of Curaçao. Located in Willemstad, Curaçao, the AAC was established to accredit higher education institutions and degree programs (at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels) offered by universities, universities of applied sciences, colleges, and professional schools in Curaçao as well as abroad.
The AAC has also entered into a formal agreement for collaboration with an internationally-recognized accreditation agency based in Germany – the Agency for Quality Assurance through Accreditation of Study Programs (AQAS). Listed on the European Quality Assurance Register (EQAR), AQAS has conducted over 6,600 accreditation procedures in Germany, across wider Europe, and around the world. An important aspect of the partnership between the AAC and AQAS is the option of a double accreditation. In this option, corresponding mechanisms from both agencies are combined offering institutions the opportunity to acquire a dual accreditation (institutional and/or programmatic) on the basis of a single procedure. All of both agencies’ respective frameworks and standards, intended to safeguard the quality of the accreditation processes, are incorporated into this combined process.
As part of the cooperative agreement between VBES and the AAC, we encourage appropriate universities, business schools, and other institutions of higher education worldwide to seek membership with and accreditation by the AAC or dual accreditation by the AAC and AQAS. In addition, VBES provides consulting and advisory services relating to the accreditation process of AAC or AAC/AQAS to those institutions that pursue AAC accreditation or AAC/AQAS accreditation.
